SCOTTISH WINTER

Team Ascent courses are based from Newtonmore which is a quiet Highland village set in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park.  It is on the main A9 trunk road North and also a good railway station with a night time sleeper service from London/Inverness return.

We have been guiding in Scotland for many years and our Scottish winter programme commences as soon as the snow arrives and is normally best from late December to April. We are about 15 minutes’ drive from Aviemore which gives easy access to Cairngorm Mountain and of course we are well placed for the west coast climbing areas! Our geographical location at the foot of the Cairngorms is ideally placed for winter climbing in the local Cairngorm Mountains which hold some of the best winter climbing crags in Europe, if not the world. Also because of its inland location the local mountain range (the Grampians) holds snow and ice when the other areas nearer the sea coast often experience thaws and lean climbing conditions.

Other Scottish winter climbing venues are only a short drive away –  Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Torridon and Creag Meagaidh are all within reach which means that we can always find the best winter conditions for your winter mountaineering. Flexibility is the key to getting the most from our Scottish winters, and our guides are masters at finding the best conditions.

Over the years of running these Scottish Winter courses we have established that most people prefer to choose their own accommodation to suit their needs. Therefore all prices shown exclude accommodation and meals. We can of course assist you in arranging the type of accommodation you require so please ask. We offer a wide range of coaching  during the winter months for beginners to experienced climbers and skiers. Our courses include  basic skills such as navigation, winter walking, survival skills, snow caving and introductory ski touring, alpine preparation skills.

Our prices are:-

Entry level Winter essential core skills: 2 day (weekend) – £185.00 per person based on a group of 4 people. 

Group Winter walking/mountaineering/introductory climbing : 2 days – £275.00 per person based on a group of two people. 5 days – £675.00 per person based on a group of two people.  

Technical Winter climbing :  £175.00 per person per day based on a group of two people, £875.00 per person for 5 days based on a group of two people.
