Weekend Mountain Navigation

Learn, brush up or improve your navigation skills ready for the winter. These informal 2 day courses are ran from our base in Newtonmore and the local hills such as the Cairngorms. We have ran these in the Lake District also and would do so again if we are asked. Aimed at anyone  from the complete beginner,, or those wanting to improve or refresh  their navigation and map reading skills. Commencing on Saturday mornings, ( although we try and have a welcome brief on the Friday evening if you can arrive in time). After a short indoor theory session  we then go out onto the hill practising for the rest of the day. For the Sunday  we go back into the mountains  and go for a long walk in and around the Cairngorms taking turns to navigate and lead. This course coaches you in aspects of leading a group, includes awareness of snow instability and subsequent route planning and choices. The weekend will enhance your navigation skills and help build confidence.

If you are  a climber we can often fit in  climbs too, but for this our ratio of number of "students" to guide/Instructor is different and  you should ask us about our customized courses!
