Introductory Winter Mountaineering/Climbing
This 5-day course commences on each Sunday morning and we try to hold an evening brief on the Saturday evening .(If you cannot arrive in time then we can do it on the Sunday morning!) Covering the basic winter skills, from a selection of clothing and equipment, basic navigation, ice axe skills including self arrest on steep snow. Rope work and anchoring and belay skills on snow, ice and rock. Basic snow pack evaluation and avalanche awareness is also an important part of this course. You will also be climbing gullies and graded mixed climbs.
For mountaineering the guide can take up to four people - we call this a ratio of 1:4
If your focus is more on climbing , then we have to drop the ratio down to 1:2 as the guide will be working with you on steeper ground and graded climbs. On day one for this course the ratio will be 1:4 and 1:2 for the other 4 days.
Hence why, below in the price section we have a MOUNTAINEERING price and a CLIMBING price.
