Island Peak
This tekking peak is an excellent adventure for those wanting to try Himalayan climbing for the first time. There are several mountains in Nepal known as trekking peaks and Island Peak is one of the classics.
Come and join us on this classic mountain Triek. Never very technical as our sherpas fix ropes over all the more difficult section and you jumar up these ropes, but none of the slopes are really hard, but still it's tough enough and there are some exposed ridges so its still not a soft touch and good fitness and mountaineering stamina are called for!
Our Itinerary takes us from Kathmnadu where we normally spend two days preparing for the trip and sight seeing, then an internal domestic flight to Lukla air strip, then a two day walk to Namche Bazzar the sherpa capital. Once there we spend an extar night in teh village to aid acclimtiasing and this also give good opportunity to explore the market, local shops, bakery,and sherpa musem. From there we continue along the Evesrt trail via Thangboche Pangboche and Dingboche where at this idillic crofting village we take another acclimatisation day to rest, acclimatise and take a short walk. We then go higher to Chukung village where again we rest for a day to aid acclimatisation and walk up another hill if you fancy it. Once we are ready we then walk another part day up to Island Peak base camp and rest there for a day or two. Our leaders will teach you how to Jumar and brief you on all aspects of the climb.
We then move up to High camp for one night and early the following morning we start in dark with head torches to go to the summit. Its an interesting climb, best done before the heat of the day. There is some scrambling, then walk on snow to reach the first fixed ropes which leads up a 45 degree slope for around three hunderd meters. This leads to a sharp steep ridge which we also ascend wit jumars on fixed ropes. This ridge leads to a sharp summit where the views are outstanding.
We descend the same fixed rope to High camp and back to base camp... We help our sherpas tidy the mountain and then return to Base camp for a wells deserved rest, hot water washing and meals.
In a day or two we strike camp and make our way back to Lukla and our flight to Kathmndu.You can join this expedition and walk in with our expedition team who will climb with you on Island peak before they stay longer and try Ama Dablam. Our sherpa swill walk you back to Lukla nadthen our kathmndu team will meet you from your Lukla flight at Kathmndu.
