Cho Oyu
Cho Oyu, the worlds sixth highest mountain, situated in Tibet at an altitude of 8201m. Sandy has guided and summited this mountain with clients. Its considered a straight forward climb and not technically demanding, however it's at high altitude and should not be underestimated. Along with Shishapagma, its considered one of the easeir 8000 meter peaks and ideal to bag your first eight thousander!
Our Team Ascent Cho Oyu expedition are always post monsoon and usually we assemble in Kathmandu in early September. After a city tour and general preperation day we set off driving to the Nepal/Tibet border. This takes a day and is an interesting drive via Kordari and along the banks of the Bhote Koshi river where we usually spend the night at Nylam. The following day the drive continues, having to pass through Neplaie and Chinese border controls which can either be straight forward or take simply ages. Like anything in China, its hard to be exact, but normally, the process is semi-efficient and normaly we can conntinue our drive thought steep sided gorges up on the the Tibet plateau to Nylam.
We spend two nights at Nylam, taking the opportunity to hill walk and acclimatise. There after we drive on. Visiting Mallerpa's moneatary and driving on to Tingiri. Here we usually rest again and take a hill walk to aid acclimatistaion and ease the four wheel drive truck fatigue! There is also an infamous disco in Nylam...wow... its an experience to be chanced!
From Tingiri we drive to the Chinese Base Camp where we remain for a few days to acclimatise, This is vital. We can walk on the local hills and also re-arrange our equipment and supplies in preperation for the Yaks . After a few days when we shoudl eb feeling semi at ease with teh altitude we walk up to Advance Base Camp (ABC) which is basically at the foot of Cho Oyu at 5700M. This will become our main camp for the duration of our expedition.
Over the period we ascend to Camp 1 at 6400M and then Camp 2 at 7000M and eventually Camp 3 at 7500M and on to the summit. You will spend quite a bit of time moving up and down between ABC and Camp 1 and 2. Once we are acclimatised we then push on up to Camp 3, spend night there and continue on to the summit. The summit day is a long hard day, as the summit is set well back. Once you are back at Camp 3 its all worth it, but it is quite a push, and like many of our Team Acent trips, its worth being in a really good physical shape when you meet us at the start of the trip.
The Expedition will be led by an IFMGA guide and also supported by our expert team of Sherpas.
